Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has declared Friday, November 6, 2026, a work-free day. The decision will allow residents, especially civil servants, to attend the reception for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Eno announced the decision after inspecting projects scheduled for commissioning during the president’s visit. He said the visit offers Akwa Ibom an opportunity to showcase the infrastructure his administration has completed.

The governor urged residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome Tinubu. He extended the invitation on behalf of the state government, the people and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Eno also announced plans for a rally during the visit to support Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. He thanked the president for releasing funds to state governments and said the support had helped Akwa Ibom deliver development projects.

Tinubu will commission several projects during his visit. They include the International Terminal Building at Victor Attah International Airport, the Aviation Village, the Airport Hospital and the ARISE Palm Resort. Other projects include the 14.5-kilometre Nsit Atai to Okobo Road, Ring Road 3 and the Command and Control Centre.

The ARISE Palm Resort is a recreation and tourism facility built on reclaimed land previously affected by gully erosion.

Tinubu will visit Akwa Ibom on Friday for a one-day working visit. He will travel to Rivers State on Saturday, November 7, to attend the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally.

The president returned to Abuja from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after performing Umrah.

The visit will also coincide with the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom’s creation. The state government plans to commission 39 completed projects to mark the occasion. An earlier schedule had suggested that the president might visit in September.

November 6 also falls on the first Friday of the month. In 2024, Governor Eno designated the first and third Fridays of every month as farm days. The work-free day therefore coincides with the state’s existing farm-day schedule.
